Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency, or Danantara Indonesia, will roll out as much as Rp14 trillion to Rp16 trillion to build housing for underprivileged community in Meikarta, Cikarang. The project will be built above a 30-hectare land acquired by the government from Lippo Group.

Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani said Danantara stands ready to fully support the project’s financing. He said the project has a large potential as the housing demand remains very high and both demand and supply are strong.

Rosan said the development may involve state-owned construction companies as contractors building the housing units. He said the project will build 18 housing towers, each has 32 floors, above a 12.8-hectare land. The development worth approximately Rp14 trillion to Rp16 trillion.

“We will collaborate with private contractors, so that’s Danantara’s role in the project at Meikarta,” Rosan said during a visit to inspect land donated by the Lippo Group in Cikarang on Sunday (8/3).

Rosan said the development at Meikarta will be done in stages until it reaches 140,000 units. He said the project is a historic momen given the rarity of a large-scale housing development in a single project and location.

He believes this project will have significant impacts, from job creation and empowerment to the surrounding community, to stimulating economic growth.

“It won’t just be us or the 140,000 families who will benefit, but also all Indonesians,” said Rosan.

Besides Rosan, the land inspection was also attended by the Head of the Housing Task Force Hashim Djojohadikusumo, the Minister of Housing and Settlement of the Republic of Indonesia Maruarar Sirait, and local government officials. Mochtar Riady, Founder and Chairman of the Lippo Group, and James Riady, Founder and Chairman of the Pelita Harapan Foundation, were also in attendance.

Sirait, Minister of Housing and Settlement (PKP), estimated that the land value in the project area ranges from Rp10 million to Rp20 million per meter square. Based on this price, he said, the value of the land donated by Lippo could reach up to Rp6 trillion.

Meanwhile, Hashim stated that the housing development program is one of the government’s strategies to stimulate economic growth. Prabowo began formulating the idea after he was elected president, with the target of driving economic growth of at least 8%.

He said that based on government data, there are approximately 9 million to 15 million families still waiting for access to adequate housing. “In addition, there are 27 million families who now live in shacks, houses that are not actually houses, but that is the reality,” said Hashim.
