Jakarta (ANTARA) – Danantara Indonesia announced a plan to invest in a strategic project in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, as an effort to boost the growth of Indonesia’s tourism sector and create opportunities for the local economy.

As part of the investment, Danantara will collaborate with the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), an existing investor, to deliver long-term value and further support Indonesia’s development priorities.

Danantara Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Pandu Sjahrir, in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, said the plan demonstrates a disciplined investment approach and a commitment to generating both financial returns and strategic impact.

“We are very pleased to announce this investment and look forward to working closely with QIA on this project to enhance Indonesia’s long-term potential, including in eastern Indonesia, particularly East Nusa Tenggara,” Pandu said.

He explained that this initiative forms the foundation for a broader series of investments aimed at generating sustainable returns while consistently opening up new socio-economic opportunities for Indonesia.

He hopes this initiative will strengthen Indonesia’s position as a world-class tourist destination, while creating added value and sustainable economic opportunities for communities in eastern Indonesia.

Pandu explained that the investment will be a greenfield project to develop new facilities.

Labuan Bajo plays a strategic role in Indonesia’s tourism ambitions as a gateway to Flores and Komodo National Park, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

He continued, saying that this initiative is designed to have a significant economic impact in the region by creating jobs during the construction and operational phases, increasing the number of international and domestic tourist arrivals, and supporting the growth of local businesses.

“Located on one of Indonesia’s most popular islands, this investment will help promote Indonesia’s natural wonders and rich cultural heritage, while strengthening Indonesia’s position as a leading tourist destination,” Pandu said.

On this occasion, Danantara assured that it remains steadfast in carrying out its mandate to invest in a disciplined manner and make a meaningful contribution to Indonesia’s long-term economic growth.

Completion of this investment is contingent on meeting requirements and complying with relevant policies.
