tirto.id – Danantara Indonesia CEO Rosan Roeslani reviewed more than 10 land options and three major projects in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, as candidates for the development of a Hajj Village. This visit was mandated by President Prabowo Subianto to oversee the planned development of a service and accommodation center for Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims in the Holy Land.

“This visit is a mandate from the President to ensure that the planned development of the Hajj Village in Makkah proceeds as planned and brings maximum benefits to the community. God willing, we will oversee this process from the initial stages until its realization, so that all Indonesian pilgrims have adequate and appropriate facilities during their pilgrimage,” Rosan said in an official statement, quoted on Thursday (August 14, 2025).

Rosan said this project is expected to be Indonesia’s first official and permanent facility in Makkah which includes representative accommodation, an integrated service center, a health clinic, and a manasik training room in a strategic location, to improve comfort, safety, and efficiency for millions of pilgrims each year.

During his visit to the Saudi Arabia, Rosan also had an audience with the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites (RCMC) in charge for planning, developing, and improving service facilities in Makkah and the Holy Land.

Together with the Hajj Organizing Agency, he also visited the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the Ministry of Investment. “We are not only focusing on the distance to Masjid al-Haram, but also paying attention to the comfort, security, and suitability of facilities for pilgrims. Our target is to ensure all elements are met, from technical aspects and legality to sustainable management,” Rosan said.

The Saudi Arabian government recently opened up opportunities for foreign entities to own property in Makkah. Implementing regulations are being prepared to ensure that ownership of strategic assets by foreign parties, including Indonesians, can be conducted legally and securely.

The Hajj Village project is part of the government’s initiative to strengthen services for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims while strengthening strategic relations between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. In addition to serving as an accommodation center, the Hajj Village is expected to symbolize Indonesia’s presence in Makkah.

“We will move quickly to complete the stages and follow the processes required by local authorities. We want to ensure that Indonesia is one of the first to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Rosan.
