He said [Vale Indonesia] is open for collaborations with stakeholders and investors to develop the three nickel processing facilities.

“I conveyed that the investment opportunity is open, and as far as I know, there are initial discussions going on regarding Danantara joining the three development projects,” Muhammad Asril said in Jakarta on Thursday (11/9).

The first project was developed alongside Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, a Chinese cobalt, nickel, and lithium producer, and Ford Motor Company, an American automaker, in Pomalaa, Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi.

The second project was located in Sambalagi, Morowali, Central Sulawesi and it was built in cooperation with GEM Co., Ltd., a Chinese battery manufacturer company.

Meanwhile, the third project, which was also developed with Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, was located in Sorowaku, East Luwu, South Sulawesi.

According to Asril, Danantara’s involvement or other investors in the projects will strengthen funding and expedite their development progress.

Furthermore, he noted the company’s commitment in using environmentally friendly energy in the three smelter projects to support decarbonation efforts.

He said about 80% of the energy need in Pomalaa smelter project was met through heat recovery, a technology to capture wasted heat energy from various production process so it can be reuse, while the rest came from liquefied natural gas (LNG).

In Sambalagi, Morowali, the project was located within the green international industrial park and its energy supply coming entirely from renewable sources, such as heat recovery, solar panels, and biomass.

“In Morowali, 100 percent of the energy is renewable and does not use LNG,” Asril added.
