Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – The Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) will allocate approximately Rp2.4 trillion for the development of integrated cattle farms to support the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the large investment covers the entire production chain, including processing.
“The cattle [farming] package [which was discussed] yesterday, from upstream to downstream, was Rp2.4 trillion,” he said when met at his residence in South Jakarta on Friday (21/11).
“The funding is planned to come from Danantara,” he said.
Amran explained that the project is focused on a single location with a capacity of around 67,000 cattle.
The development includes a livestock farm, a feed mill, and grass management, the most demanding component of the operation.
He said the model is designed to be integrated to ensure a stable supply of feed, animal health, milk, and meat.
“There are the cattle, then there’s the feed mill, then there’s the grass supply. The most challenging part is the grass supply,” Amran said.
Meanwhile, the government is also expanding the development of chicken farms. The first phase covers 12 locations, and the second phase covers 18 locations spread across various regions, including East Java, Lampung, and Kalimantan.
The government is also preparing to produce day-old chicks (DOC) to ensure a stable and affordable supply of chicken stock for small-scale farmers.
“To ensure feed independence. The feed mills being built are to help small-scale farmers ensure their feed, DOC, and medicines are guaranteed,” he explained.
For other food sectors, the government is also targeting soybean planting on 1 million hectares in stages.
New land, including confiscated land that does not yet have oil palm plantations, will be diverted for national soybean development.
Amran added that cross-ministerial coordination is ongoing, including collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) for land preparation.
He also emphasized that the previously mentioned IDR 20 trillion fund is specifically allocated for the construction of feed mills and the development of chicken farms.
The government is currently developing a production ecosystem for laying hens and broilers to support MBG needs, including the provision of GPS, PS, feed, vaccines, veterinary medicines, logistics, and cold storage.
If realized, production is targeted to reach 1 million tons of eggs and 1.5 million tons of chicken meat per year.
