JAKARTA, MUI.OR.ID — The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) will follow up on a fatwa request from the Center for Economic and Law Studies (Celios) regarding the incomes of ministers and deputy ministers who also hold commissioner positions at state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
This was confirmed by KH Cholil Nafis, Head of Da’wah and Brotherhood at MUI. He said the council welcomed the fatwa request.
According to Kyai Cholil, every request for a fatwa from the public, referred to whom as mustafti, will always be processed through an in-depth review mechanism within MUI.
“Thank you to Celios for requesting a fatwa from MUI. Every request from the public will be studied and decided upon. This particular request is important to ensure that the income received is guaranteed to be halal,” Kyai Cholil said on Thursday (11/9).
He explained that Celios’ letter will be forwarded to MUI’s Fatwa Commission, which has the authority to study Islamic legal issues related to holding multiple offices while receiving salaries or honorariums from concurrent roles.
“The fatwa that will be issued will not only serve as a guideline for the state officials involved, but also as a moral compass for Muslims more broadly in safeguarding the principles of justice, transparency, and trustworthiness in financial management,” he said.
