Jakarta – Indonesia officially has its first aviation leasing investment platform following the establishment of the Mandiri Aviation Leasing Fund. Danantara Investment Management, SMBC Aviation Capital, and Mandiri Investment Management are behind the new entity.
Danantara invested approximately US$800 million, or about Rp13.53 trillion (US$1 = 16,916). Danantara Indonesia Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir said this partnership is an important step in Indonesia’s participation in the global aviation financing ecosystem.
“By becoming the main partner in this initiative alongside SMBC Aviation Capital and Mandiri Investment Management, Danantara Indonesia is investing in a world-class platform that provides optimal returns while building strategic capabilities for Indonesia,” Pandu said in a written statement on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
Mandiri Investment Management and SMBC Aviation Capital are set to jointly manage the Mandiri Aviation Leasing Fund under a cooperation agreement that combines Mandiri Investment Management’s capabilities in designing the fund’s investment platform structure with SMBC Aviation Capital’s deep operational expertise in the aviation leasing industry.
As part of this partnership, SMBC Aviation Capital will provide operational and aircraft leasing management services to the Mandiri Aviation Leasing Fund, while simultaneously building long-term capabilities in the aviation leasing business in Indonesia.
Pandu hopes that in the long term, the platform can support Danantara Investment Management’s exposure to more global asset classes. It can also provide optimal, risk-adjusted returns for investors, while positioning Indonesia within the global value chain in the aviation leasing industry.
This partnership also lays the foundation for broader economic cooperation between Indonesia and Japan, by opening opportunities for sustainable cross-border investment between SMBC Group and Danantara Indonesia.
“We are very pleased to establish this strategic partnership, which will help advance the aviation ecosystem in Indonesia and abroad. Through close collaboration with Mandiri and Danantara Indonesia, we look forward to supporting long-term growth, innovation, and collaboration across the sector,” SMBC Aviation Capital Chief Commercial Officer Barry Flannery said.
