Jakarta – PLN has prepared 21 solar power plants (PLTS) and PLTS integrated with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a total capacity of 513 Megawatt-peak (MWp) to be executed.
The step is taken to reduce fuel consumption in Indonesia’s power sector where the 21 projects are hoped to have their Commercial Operation Date (COD) by 2026 to 2028.
“In the first semester, there are 21 PLTS projects and PLTS integrated with Battery Energy Storage System ready to be executed. Those will be added with specific programs using large-scale Battery Energy Storage System and a large scale PLTS to reduce reliance on imported fuel,” PT PLN (Persero) CEO Darmawan Prasodjo said during a hearing with Commission XII DPR on Monday (April 13, 2026).
Darmawan said the decision is in line with PLN’s aim to expedite clean energy transition.
“In this process, we are shifting expensive energy sources to cheaper ones, and also shifting fossil fuels to renewable energy sources,” he said.
PLN also plans to retire approximately 2,139 diesel-fired power plants (PLTD) at 741 locations across Indonesia.
“PLN has also planned to reduce fuel consumption in the electricity sector at 741 diesel-fired power plants, with a total of approximately 2,139 diesel engines,” said Darmawan.
