Danantara Indonesia and the government inaugurated the construction of a waste-to-energy facility in Bekasi, West Java, on Wednesday (26/8).
Danantara Investment Management (DIM) Pandu Sjahrir said the waste-to-energy facility, which is located in Ciketing Udik, is targeted to manage more than 500,000 tonnes of waste a year or about 70% of the waste piled in Bekasi City.
“The initiative worth Rp3 trillion, from the investment side of things, is expected to create about 1,000 green jobs and reduce the need for landfills by 90%,” Pandu said.
The WtE project is projected to reduce waste emission from Bekasi landfill by 80%, reduce carbon emission as much as 640,000 tonnes CO2 equivalent a year, and supply green energy to 55,000 houses in Bekasi City.
