Draw the Line: Danantara Loud Call for Renewable Investment

Jakarta, September 19, 2025 – Draw The Line: Reset Indonesia coalition marched from the Kendal Tunnel to the State Palace in Jakarta to demand that the government address the climate and democracy crises. This action is based on the increasingly apparent impacts of the climate crisis – reflected in 3,472 disasters throughout 2024 according to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the rising cost of living for the community, and the shrinking space for democracy.

One of the banners carried by the activist read, “Danantara: Funding Progress or Funding the Problem?” a powerful demand urging the government to stop financing fossil fuel pollution and start investing in renewable energy. As Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara holds a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s development path, choosing whether to drive real solutions or perpetuate pollution.

The activist also wore a mask that symbolizes the toxic pollution that communities are forced to endure, while the raised arms project defiance and determination in the face of injustice. Participants attended the action wearing creative costumes as a symbol of public expression. Through speeches, art performances, and broad public participation, this action became a symbol of solidarity to promote a cleaner, fairer, and more sustainable energy and development system.
